Old Wharf
Another angle of one of the famous historical landmark in Silay City, Philippines. In my previous post, Old Port, that photo was taken at the right side of this port. The one posted here, is the one that where famous photographers from all over the country visited and took the very same angle, and also were the ones featured in some local and international travel magazines. This so-called abandoned wharf was used by the province of Negros Occidental (Phils.) for transport of commodities and trading. It measures to as much as 1.5 km and was considered as one of the longest wharf in Asia that time. It was built and completed in 1933, but, as mentioned, was abandoned when it was struck by a bomb during the Japanese occupation in the province, and from there, it was never rehabilitated.
To date, it’s already considered as one of the heritage of Silay City (Brgy. Mambulac), north of the capital city of Negros Occidental, Bacolod City.
